Running parallel to the water, the Birch Bay Berm is a separated berm-and-pathway along Birch Bay Drive, completed in 2021, that protects the road from storms while giving walkers and cyclists a scenic waterfront route. The nearby Terrell Creek Marsh and its interpretive trail preserve one of the region's few remaining fresh-and-saltwater estuaries, a favorite spot for viewing great blue herons and migratory birds. For seasonal recreation, Birch Bay Waterslides has operated in the community for decades. Golfers can play Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club, an Arnold Palmer–designed course near Blaine, along with Loomis Trail, Grandview, and Dakota Creek courses in the surrounding area.
